Turkey on Thursday urged Saudi Arabia to answer questions that remain over the murder of Riyadh critic Jamal Khashoggi, such as who ordered his killing and what happened to the body. Saudi authorities last week claimed Khashoggi, a Washington Post contributor, was killed during a "brawl", and arrested 18 Saudis in connection with his death. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan earlier this week said the "savage" murder had been planned, while Turkish media have published gruesome details of Khashoggi's alleged torture and decapitation.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley on Thursday asked for a criminal investigation into whether Julie Swetnick and her attorney, Michael Avenatti, conspired to provide false statements to Congress and obstructed a congressional investigation during the confirmation process for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Federal prosecutors in New York filed a public brief that doesn’t specify who is targeted in the investigation or named in the warrant papers. Protecting their privacy interests make it impractical to release the warrant papers in redacted form, they argued.
U.S. Senate Judiciary Chairman Charles Grassley on Thursday sought a federal probe of Julie Swetnick, who accused Brett Kavanaugh of aggressive sexual behavior before his confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court, and her lawyer Michael Avenatti. Grassley referred them to the Justice Department for criminal investigation related to "a potential conspiracy to provide materially false statements to Congress and obstruct a congressional committee investigation," according to a statement from his office. The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the referral.
