George H W Bush has become the longest living president in US history at the age of 93 years and 166 days. He reached the milestone on Saturday, surpassing Gerald Ford who was 93 years and 165 days old when he died in December 2006 and Ronald Reagan who lived until he was 93 years and 120 days old. Jimmy Carter, who is still alive, is currently in fourth place at 93 years and 56 days. Mr Bush, who served two terms as Ronald Reagan's vice president, was elected to the Oval Office in 1988, serving one term before being defeated by Bill Clinton. The 41st president, Mr Bush divides his time between Houston, Texas and the family's summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine. Profile | George H W Bush Over the last few weeks, Mr Bush has been accused by four women of groping them during photoshoots. The former president's spokesman issued an apology following the first allegations , explaining that being wheelchair bound, his arm often drops below the waist of people alongside him. Earlier this year it emerged that Mr Bush voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election, having dismissed Donald Trump as a "blowhard". He also joined his son George W Bush in releasing a joint statement condemning racial bigotry and anti-Semitism following the violence in Charlottesville. It was a move which was seen as criticism of Mr Trump's response to the riot in which one person died after being mowed down in a car driven by a white nationalist demonstrator. Mr Bush remains politically active, has a Twitter account and has joined other living former presidents on a number of occasions, most recently at a concert in Texas to raise money for victims of Hurricane Harvey.
